Sexing silkies

Silkies have blue or black skin, 5 toes, blue ears, and black or deep raspberry combs usually in a walnut style.

There are Frizzled silkies or Sizzles with Frizzled feathers but that looks like maybe a Serama? Gorgeous bird. Just not a silkie. Love him!

Thank you for the info! The other 2 look like they have dark blue very small comb.

I haven’t heard of serama, I will check it out now. So far it seems we are slightly more limited for breeds in NZ than other places or perhaps just in my searches for fertile eggs.

I have a brown leghorn, 2 araucana, 2 silver campine and this is my first experience with silkie chickens but if they all turn out to be Roos I will try again to get some hens. We love how beautiful and friendly they are.

Your frizzle is a cochin not a silkie - cochin's have feathered legs and straight combs, they come in all manner of colors and frizzles as well as regular feathers. Definitely appears to be a male.
