My SLW are over 2 weeks old now and I can see that some have a small ridge on their combs, almost like the beginning of a single comb. Others have a widening flat area on their combs. Are the ridged ones pullets?

It's really hard to tell at two weeks. Are any of their crowns getting red, rather than pink? You should start to see differences by about four to six weeks of age. If you post some pictures, we might be able to help you more, as well

I also have some 2 week old SL Wyandottes. Some are darker than the others and the lighter ones are getting their feathers faster. I think the darker ones are roosters.

What does the reddish tinge to comb mean? Rooster?

I have month olds and I'm not sure what is what. I'm only supposed to have two roos and the rest girls, though I did lose one chick. I've been mulling over what they might be. I know at least one has a reddish tinge to the beginnings of the comb.

Hmm...mine are the opposite. They are only a week old so it's hard to tell. I ordered 5 pullets and one roo. The one that I suspect is a roo is one that is more blonde. The reasons for my suspicion is that it is feathering out slower, it has boxy wings, and it acts more aggressive than the rest. I know none of these things are good indicators but I still suspect he's the roo. I guess only time will tell. As for the combs, I have a few that have the ridges and a few that appear to have the rose.

I have 2, week old SLW (along w/ 2 RIR and 2 PR). Since day one I have been wondering about one of my slightly aggressive and larger SL pullets. I am suppose to have all girls. I am worried. I really don't want a roo. That will complicate things. Hoping she is just showing her dominance as qween of the flock:/ early. She (he) is the only one w/o tail feathers and is just slightly larger than the rest. Is there still hope she is "really" a she?

Thanks for the comments. To be honest, there's a little of everything growing on their heads. Some have the single ridge, some have a widening flat red comb, and others are dark grey to almost black in the comb location. Also, I had to pull a Tetra Tint from the flock due to her being a picking victim. They bloodied her tail good and I'm wait for some Blue Kote from MM. I hope that will fix her.

I have two with rosecombs and one with a single, the roses are very yellow on the comb with a little black. I did not notice this until it was discussed here.

We have 4, supposedly pullets, but it sure is nerve-wracking trying to figure it out, considering we aren't allowed roosters in our City. Three look the same, almost identical. Their comb consists of a broad, yellowish/orange bare spot and the fourth's comb area is almost black with a little yellow. It is smaller than the other three and more fine boned. Not much happening wattle-wise, slight pinkish wattles on all of them. They are 5 weeks old today. Any idea why the one has a black comb area? Thanks.
