Sexing the Brahma breed, (standard size, Light Brahma)

Hello there! We have our first and only Brahma and are obsessed. We purchased her as a Pullet but now having doubts. Appropriate hatch date was 2/24/20 so a little over 5 weeks old now. Please help me decipher, Pullet or Cockerel? Unfortunately, Roos are a tremendous No No where we live so I would need to swap her out with the breeder soon. We love her so much, this one would hurt. what do you think?

Your welcome I just ended up with 4 out of 6 pullets being cockerels :( someone messed up big time lmbo

ugh. That’s rough! I’m sorry that turned out that way for you. For us, our kiddos are attached so I feel terrible switching them out. I just don’t have another choice.

I don’t seem to have good luck with sexed brahmas hahaha it is life...just rehomed one today....3 more to go lmbo

You might wait.... seems like my Brahma pullet's comb might have looked more like that cockerel pic at that age. Meanwhile, I'm looking for a Brahma cockerel (in Albuquerque, NM).....

Thank you for the glimmer of hope! We love her and really don’t want to part with her. As for your Roo, I hope you find what you are looking for soon.

I think it should be really clear in about a week (two at most) if you have a boy so maybe give it just a bit longer if you are already attached. I do think you may have a boy though. The only reason I would wait is because boys tend to feather out slower and yours looks feathered out like my girl at that age so maybe there is a glimmer of hope. Here is a comparison of boy vs girl. My girl has an incorrect comb so don’t judge her by that. My boy was also suppose to be a pullet so I wonder if they are just harder to sex and have a higher error rate.

I think they may be harder to sex....all of mine feathered out the same but wen those combs got wide and the wattles started...I knew I had 4 boy 2 girls out of 6 pullets. :barnie :he
