Sexing?

Hello!I recently incubated some eggs and successfully hatched 1 Barred Plymouth and 3 Buff Orphingtons. Would love opinions on cockerel or pullet? I only have one BR so nothing to compare to but one of the BO's wings are super long and the other two BO's are half the length. Thanks so much!!

way too soon to tell. Have to wait until they're 8wks or so, or until the BR start to feather.

Barred Rocks have sex linked chick feathers. That Barred Rock is definitely a roo

I never trust the head spot. Hatchery BRs have a tendency to have very messy head spots, so you can't tell until they feather. My BR had a big messy head spot, and she's a pullet.

That might be the case, but out of the 30+ barred rocks I’ve raised before this rule has been true

Please post pics of your BRs comb at 6 weeks, and your others combs at 8 weeks. Orpingtons are slower to mature.
Do not worry, unless you have quality birds, and good breeding lines, BR chicks cannot be distinguished as chicks. When birds are from hatcheries, the breeding gets all messy and unkept, so the birds come out all various colors. Some people try to sex their chicks by the lack wash on the legs. Black wash equals pullet, yellow equals rooster. But again, this will not work unless you are keeping tabs on your breeders. A lot of people try to do it from the head spot, as mentioned above, but that isn't accurate either. The only thing that is accurate, and won't mess up, is that cockerels develop red combs and wattles around 6 weeks, depending on breed. So that's ow you can tell with your chickaroos. Good luck!
