Haha I have dont that before too, had a hen lay an egg in my hand. And no, I only have one of those Gold Sexlink hens left from the SS X RIW cross. I will be working on breeding some kind of complicated Rose Combed sexlinked strains though. They will be like 3 way or 4 way crosses. Not sure what all kinds of breeds I'm gonna incorporate yet.

I plan on doing the same this year. I have "types" I plan on breeding this year on will be out of a R/C Rhode Island Red over a Silver Laced Wyandotte and the other will be a R/C Rhode Island Red over a Silver Leghorn.

Cool, as of today I now have BLR, Barred, White, and Buff Wyandottes as well as access to a nice stocky strain of production Dominiques. And I would bring in the Rose Combs from those. And bring in Dom White and Silver other breeds. I will probably do about three different strains of them. I'll be sure to post pics when I have them ready.

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

Has anyone tried a RC RIR over a Dominique hen? Pics?

Couldn't the comb mess that up?

Could the Comb mess what up? Rose Combs are Dominant so breeing the RC RIR on the Dominique hens would give Rose Combed black Sexlinks for sure. And even if just one parent in the cross was a RC and the other was a Single Comb, the offspring should still be rose combed.

I didnt have time to get pics today and the birds arent quite mature yet, I got one BLR roo who is mature, 1 barred roo, 2 Buff hens, and 4 Whites and I'm pretty sure one is a roo but not as bloomed out as the Barred roo who is the same age. The Barred Roo is het barred so he is darker like a Barred Rock hen would be. I will try to get pics tomorrow.
