alright....
so the chicks will not turn out to be sexlinked. so they'll be red with either white tails or black tails

I'm so confused about sex links, I bought 3 from our local TSC, they are black with a bit of lof a spot of white on the wing, and white butts, what are they? how big will they be?
I've already gathered they will be good layers, but what else and how will I know what breed the parents were? is there anyway to tell what they will look like as adults? Kim

Would crossing a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana rooster with a Silver (Silver Duckwing) Ameraucana hen create sex linked offspring?

The big thing about the Sexlink is the fact they are a good layer and they can be sexed at hatching. Other than that not sure if it really matters. The rooster was black and more than likely the hen was a barred. With my Jersey Giant rooster crossed with my very broody Cuckoo Maran I get sexlinked chicks and for what it's worth they mature to good sized hen that is all black in color and pretty quiet to be around. Not flighty.... There are many other breeds that when crossed appropriately will create a black sexlink. In this case the pullets get the black gene from the rooster.

Hi all. I tossed a few silver laced wyandotte hens into our RIR breeding pen, thinking why not make a few a sex links. Now that I've hatch out the first chicks after adding the SLW, i wonder if someone wouldn't mind confirming for me that the girls are the little buff ones to the left in the photo and the boys are the silver guys to the right in the photo? I think that I've got that part figured out OK, but what I didn't expect was to have trouble telling apart some the less striped RIR chicks from the female sex linked chicks! In the second photo, I have what I am sure is a RIR chick but then there are a few chicks like the one on the right who have no stripes but the color is so dark red and I have had RIRs hatch out like this often, but is it possible for them to just be really red sex link girls? Thanks for any input.
