Kinda, if they were masking barring, they would actually make black sexlinks . So not major loss there unless you dont want black sexlinks.

But they just arent a good choice in general becuase you dont know what they ARE masking, They have to be masking something like Columbian to make red sexlinks, but they could also be masking black or partridge or something like that an that isnt going to get you sexlinks so in general its best to stay away from recessive white breeds.

It was from your posts that I learned not to use white rocks and where to find RIWs so thanks for posting with such good info. I don't have any preference between BSLs or RSLs. Just figured it would be easier to sex them if I knew exactly what color to look for. What would be the difference in the pullets and roos if I did cross a RIR roo with PBRs? If it is not real easy to see the difference I don't want to take the chance of getting it wrong since I will be selling them as 95% pullets for a higher price than straight run chicks. My only experience with any sex links are with black since that is what I got from Meyer last year and they are no different than any other standard LF hen I have. Figure the reds are prolly about the same.

this is my experience with a RIR/BRs:female black Sexlink chicks are black with some of them having a little red on their head, male black Sexlinks are black with a white spot on the top of the head. BO/BR black Sexlinks: female totally black, male black with a white face(more white than RIR/BR Sexlink)and white underneath.

Yeah that's the problem, I need a mix that all, not some of them look the same for pullets and the same for roos. Just having some of them with red on their heads and some not is too much of a chance of me getting it wrong and selling a roo in place of a pullet.

The BO X BRs were very easy to sex as you can see in my pics on the first page, all of the pullets I hatched had a good amount of gold in them as chicks and none were totally black. but RIR X BRs are pretty easy to sex too the pullets of these can be totally black though. Look up tadersons thread called Sexlinked Information and he has pics there of what they would look like.

I noticed this hen has yellow legs, was the father a Buff Rock? Or a poor quality BO? my BO crosses always have pale legs.

I researched it, and found that if the Buff Orp roo is impure for leg color (he came from a hatchery) then when bred with a yellow-legged bird (such as a Barred Rock) you get white, yellow, willow green, and blue slate legs, which is exactly what I got between my 22 pullets.
