SFDucks Pics - The first few weeks with our ducks - Appleyards, Harlequins & Hookbills

One other note, it's cool to see how much more engaged my son is at 3.5 years old than he was at 2.5 years old. He has been spending hours outside "protecting" the ducklings and watching them do their thing in their little pen. I really hatched these guys for my own satisfaction so it's been a pleasant surprise how much he has also enjoyed having duckling this time around.

Three and a half weeks now and still growing like crazy. I brought home some minnows as a Friday afternoon treat.

It's been a busy duck week. The little ones are coming up on seven weeks which means it's time to start paying attention to who is quacking and who isn't. I put together a second interim duck house for the little ones to stay until they get integrated into the main group. I'm proud to say it was 100% made from scraps and stuff I already had on hand, no hardware store trips.

Also took some quick pictures of the big 8' x 8' duck house where the new girls will eventually move in.

Beautiful ducks and really nice houses you have for them. I don't see any windows in the first pic though, I'd rec some windows for ventilation just like in your yellow one.

I would have liked to have the time to add some windows but was rushing to finish before I went out of town. There are ventilation holes in the front and back as well between all the corrugated gaps in the roof. It's also a raised wire floor. It's not exactly breezy but they aren't going to suffocate in there either. If I have time next weekend I might add some hardware cloth windows to the sides.
