Hi! One of my girls has started laying eggs with a circle of discoloration around the more pointed end of the egg. I've tried googling for images and am not coming up with anything. on all but one of the eggs the shell is smooth where the discoloration is. Can anyone tell me what this is? I sell my eggs and am hesitant to include them in the cartons just because they don't look good even though I have eaten them and nothing seemed "off" about them other than the marking on the shell... Can anyone help me out? :)

Hi edoc79! I too have been having similar 'problem' with one of my girls. :/ It doesn't happen often, just shows up on occasion. What's dif for me is that the end of the egg where the spot is is generally rough. Not terribly so, but noticeably more than the rest of the shell. I don't sell eggs, but do share them with family and neighbors. I have eaten them too, and agree that they don't taste any different. Anybody got an idea what causes this? I have a photo, but can't remember how to post it. My six girls are all healthy, about 1+ YO, and get to 'free range' our backyard most days for several hours. Don't know if it is something that happens in some breeds more than others . . . I have 1 BO, 2 Austras, 2 NHs and 1 Red Star. Thanks for any thoughts! :idunno
