That was not true waxing. She likely leaked a little from laying down or moving her back legs. True wax, starts a little, can fall off and then come back again and again. Not all mares are alike. My last mare that foaled did not wax at all. But most of the time they do and it is wet looking as it progresses.

lockedhearts i beg to differ. what twitch has IS wax. i do know the difference. i can wipe it off and come back 20 mins later when she hasnt laid down at all its back. i have had 3 different people (my vet included) confirm its wax. i have heard of many mares waxing off and on for weeks.

twitch is STILL waxing. she has been butt rubbing a lot today. she is a little different today. i feel her milk could get sweeter, but that could happen fast! her teats look shiny today also

Maybe Small ones are different, but in my 25+ years of foaling out mares, I have never had one wax for weeks.

lol it is really quite nice today. i turned her out so i could strip her stall with out her being under foot. i am babysitting today so i cant leave her out since i cant see her pen from the house.

she was a brat today, i unbraided her tail to let it breath and i will braid it again this evening

So I think this should be a contest between the Malina thread and the Twitch thread - who will go first?

OP, I see you mention the mare being a hard keeper. An efficient way to increase fat intake - and a successful one for putting weight on our hard keeping mare - is a combination of a good probiotic and a concentrated fat supplement.

We use Amplify. It's a pelleted fat supplement made by purina with a 30% fat ratio. You can easily increase the fat content with out adding a ton of oils(imo don't do anything but run in one end and out the other) and other gunk.
