Well that’s a bummer. Do you have any idea what her laying status is?One of the Red Sex Links is unwell. She's from the group that was "rescued" last year. She may be three and half years old. She is mite and lice free, not eggbound and I don't think she has worms. Her belly is the right size and firmness, her throat is clear and healthy looking and she does at least have some meat on her bones.
Slide. Is that a new name?At the front of the picture is Slide. She's the other Golden Comet in the group.

Awww… poor Slip. Poor Henry. Poor you. Thank you for improving her quality of life for a little while.I think Slip is dying. She's laid six lash eggs in a row, is losing weight and tonight I found her trying to lay in the broody coop but no egg to deliver. Her crop was only half full.
I picked her up and put her with the others in the main coop which will hopefully keep her warmer. Such a shame. She's a friendly hen and gets on with everyone it seems. Henry will miss her. He likes her.
Hallelujah, right???? Let the lengthening days begin! It is, FINALLY, the winter solstice!
C'mon girls; I need some eggs! View attachment 2935217

Oh, I remember now. Slip and Slide.Slide. Is that a new name?
Interesting thought! Or maybe they were too long and therefore tender? Just grasping at anything here.Shad, I can't remember from my lot, but do battery's do anything with chicken toe nails? Just wondering if that's why they don't dig @ first? If they don't have nice strong nails any sort of digging would be difficult.
So did I...Ummm… I think they thought “Nope!”
