We had been hovering around 32F-36F /0-2C for a bit, but It warmed up to 44F/6-ishC, here Tuesday, in time for a monsoon. @Molpet so we have not had any snow yet. We will get a dusting, sometimes, in February. It doesn't last long and typically does not stick to the roads, which is good because the folks down here have no real experience driving in ice and snow.
It started raining about 12:00 AM Tuesday and proceeded to chuck it down all day, by 7 AM there was 2-3 inches of standing water in the run and we had high winds, so we made the decision to keep the chickens in the coop, most of the day. (glad we built a large enough coop to give them some room.) They didn't like it but, they all behaved and ate well. No fighting and the egg thief made them scrambles and banana for their birthday breakfast.
Today, the sun is back but it is hovering just above freezing, but most of the standing water is gone, so I let them out as soon as there was a glimpse of sun. Because of the colder weather, I have started putting a little petroleum jelly on their legs and feet at bed time. The boys really enjoy having their feet rubbed.
Needless to say, Tuesday's rain put a bit of a wrench in the birthday celebrations, but I hand fed them all some sardines on the roost at bed time and congratulated Blue, Spud and Goldie for reaching the level of Rooster. 4-5 of the birthday girls are all playing at being broody during the day, but abandon their clutches at night, which I am good with, this time of year and we have intentions of further expansions and upgrades before we let them get too serious about hatching their own little fluffs.
