Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I've watched chickens pass over what I would have thought was an interesting bug or plant and head for one particular place and start digging or tearing bits of a plant that they didn't show much interest in a few weeks ago.
About ten days ago I saw a few hens nibbling at the rosemary in their yard for the first time ever in five years 🤔.

Looking back and comparing, I realise my ex-batts were not that good at foraging in the sense that the scope of what they ate was definitely less than what the other chickens have been tasting throughout the years. The ex-batts certainly did all the scratching and digging and jumping, and spent a lot of time foraging, and also loved to go out in the garden and explore new places. But they were definitely not as prone to that self medicating thing.
Maybe it's just because they were the first chickens here and no one could show them ?

This is very similar to a favourite sauce of mine from villages around here that's even simpler. It's used specifically with the typical squash and chard raviolis made for christmas and special occasions ; just finely crushed walnuts, optional grated garlic, salt and pepper, and adding at the last moment a small ladle of the water the raviolis cooked in. The sauce needs to be put in the plate before adding the raviolis to properly cover them all.
I was served plain pasta with a similar sauce at the italian moutain rifugio Migliorero, but with a drizzle of walnut oil on top and a few whole walnuts, and I loved it.
Someone has worms.:( I think it's Sylph but I'm not sure. I'll worm Sylph and Tull and then the others.
I found a bundle of round worms this morning also when cleaning underneath the roosts, and I'm not sure between three hens. One I know is very prone to have them, I'm hesitant to just deworm her, the three possible culprits, or do all the flock. I usually do a yearly flock worming about a month later since the beginning of spring seems to be a great time for worms 😒.
No, sorry, I don't like X. I can't and won't see this because I left X personally and with the companies I work for.
I left Instagram recently ; while it was interesting watching pictures of chickens from all over the world, it's an easy choice to make.

Tax : I already posted this Kale attack from a year ago but... I just found out how to get it in slow motion !!🤣

Kiddo and I got Valentine's day chicks. Just hearing them peep and scratch around is healing my soul. ❤️ 🧡
I still have eggs in the incubators, and will have to move them all to a bigger brooder soon. I miss having a broody hen to deal with the eggs and babies!
