Two hours today. Cold by roost time but it stayed dry.
This is what the field chickens live for. Sad isn't it. A couple of hours out of their prison and a couple of handfulls of tuna and cooked brown rice.

The minute I point the camera at them their heads disappear.

Thing is it's no good the backyard movement washing it's hands of the problem of chicken waste. 1000000 chickens is still 1000000 chickens be they concentrated in one place, or spread over miles.

Given what you walked in to, their lives have improved,exponentially, under your care. It may not be perfect, but very little in life is, they are well cared for and seem content.

I don't think that's true with regard to manure any more than it is to loading in a building. The difference between a distributed or a concentrated load can be still standing or collapse.

Maybe not. I'm just pissed off at the whole backyard chicken keeping thing at the moment.

I get pissed sometimes with people who want to make a personal profit with chickens. Don’t want to invest in proper housing , etc. Produce eggs for a better price than the eggs in the supermarket.

And if the same person has a cat or a dog there is no problem to spend money. Buy expensive food, toys, benches and if the pet gets sick they go to a vet and pay big money for a cure.

Sorry to hear Shad that its hard for you to maintain your love for chicken keeping. Or is it just the chickens in the allotment?

Either way, I think its time to think about searching a new home/owners for the chickens if you start to hate it. I do hope this feeling is temporary. If it isn’t, please search someone who has a big garden who wants to take over the whole family.
