"Why are you photographing me in the bath?!"

Sussex are just really solid. Even for bigger birds, I'm always surprised at their weight when I pick mine up. They're like breeze blocks underneath the fluff.
In my overwhelming hatch in 2023 (9 chicks from 11 hatchery eggs) I had a bantam speckled Sussex pullet and a cockerel. They where lovely and friendly. The size of adult bantams is around 900 grams/1 kg.

I had to sell/give away 4 cockerels and a few pullets ASAP. There was no way to keep the pullet if I wanted to make a deal with the guy who loved to breed with 2 males and had room for the male Dutch as well. Last year I contacted the breeder again for a new try. But his own eggs were infertile by that time.

Thats why I have 2 Amrocks now and no bantam Sussex.

For now my flock is complete.

Officially I have to coop them up in a coop/run now with the bird flu restrictions in the Netherlands. The run is big enough to keep 5 small and 3 bigger bantams (15m2) inside if necessary, that is after a warning/visit from an enforcer.

Until that moment I let them free range.
My moulting /oldies flock. Lots of feathers but no eggs at all last week.
