Another day (yesterday) with lots of time out of the coop run. It was sunny but a little bit chilly late afternoon.

About eight to ten eggs a day currently. Three of the Legbars are laying so only five or six of the Ex Battery hens are laying. I'm good with that. The fewer eggs the happier I am apart from the sad fact that once they stop laying it isn't long before they develope reproductive problems.
On the bright side they are getting at least some semblance of a decent life now.

How is Agatha doing?

My ex-batt Vanille that used to have problems laying has also started laying several soft shell eggs in a row again. I'm inclined to think it's the stress from several hawk attacks and Théo the little rooster trying awkwardly to mate her ten times a days.

Why? Do you think laying puts a big stress on their body?
I tend to worry when they don't lay rather than when they do !

Tax payment! Today was lovely and sunny, perfect for working in the garden. The ladies were very unhappy that I covered over the area I was working with some chicken wire to keep them out! But I did dig up some carrots, and uncovered a lot of tasty worms for them to feast upon, so I think they forgave me, at least for now.
