I think strawberries would be fine. Any kine fruit really. Mom will help introduce them to any new foods. Banana is one of my favorite foods to feed any of my animals.

I wonder if he is scolding them for wandering too far. I'm sure Shad has got some great thoughts on this roo behavior.
If it were me though- and I don't know a lot about your set up other than it is super beautiful and charming and I want to live there **deep sigh**
I'd probably toss him out and leave the ladies and mama in the safe space.

Chicks follow their mommie.
I never let young chicks free range. Too many cats and big birds here.

We did something a bit like that with Théo and Chipie but what they associate with the trick is a special box, not a noise, which would be much more efficient to call them when they can't see us.
However the only thing they love enough to come is sunflower seeds and I'm not sure that would be good for the chicks ? They are 10 days now.
Would small pieces of strawberries be all right ? Or what could I give as treat while they are small?

Sometimes a dish of chicken food is enough "treat" to get chickens to come.
I've had chickens with dry food available all the time, who would come running for a dish of wet food. Apparently it is much better, even though it's just the same stuff with water added!

For luring chickens into a pen, I learned not to use anything they could pick up and carry around. For example, pieces of bread crust-- the first few chickens picked up the pieces and ran back out! A dish of wet food makes them stay THERE to eat it, so it became my default chicken-bribe.

I was just answering the fruit question. My mom's have the babies sample many things but usually gobble most of it for themselves- always depending. Mostly depending on the age of chicks of course. My mom's stear them away from things she does not want them to have and yes, worms and meats are always terrific, agreed.

You're a kind soul. This situation is a result of not heeding previous advice. Don't let a junior hen hatch. Have a separate coop and take time thinking about it.

It's very kind of you to buy lawn furniture for your chickens!

So true! I spent a few weeks refinishing the those deck chairs for them too!
I actually missed the million dollar shot with 90% of my flock crammed on them. I need to wear a camera around my neck forsure.

Without chickens my yard is a boring un-fertizled place.

I always remain hopeful that they will peck enough young grass shoots so I won't have to mow
But that fertilizer thing.... hard to keep up with the growth.

Good morning X Batts. Just was told we have rain what a surprise 31 cinder blocks to unload. They will not melt. Pay tax after rain may be July of later La ninna is here to stay unsure when it may leave?

My chickens think their food is a treat.

Sunflower seeds are fine in small quantities as are small pieces of strawberry.
I think you would be shocked at what mum tells them is okay to eat.
I used to feed chicks just a few days old finely chopped cooked white fish with mums permission of course.
