Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

We are having a downpour here. For the first time in ages I'm pleased too have this rain
I’m jealous. We really could do with a couple of hours of heavy rain here too.

Ooh wait. You’re not Dutch are you?

Some tax:

No more escapes since I've been back as far as I know.
It might seem that way but there are now 3 groups. The newcomers have adopted one and they all roost together in the small coop.
Three groups ? That sounds like those chickens are beginning to have a real social life 💚. Is the newcomer's friend one of the more ancient ex-batts?
I got a mention in the village newspaper this month I'm told. I haven't seen the article but from what I gather it mentioned I had been sharing the chicken care with C over the winter months.

C got a couple of community care order people to do some bramble and rubbish clearing. If you've been a bit naughty and the state catches you and you end up in court, community work is one of the punishments the court gives out.
They did a decent job and C tells me they will be coming back to do some more.
This was like what you can see on the left.

Congratulations for your new local fame! If you do get a copy of it please quote it here for us!

I like this idea from C. I think it makes sense to use the allotment space for that kind of thing.
Someone on the fourth picture likes you or maybe your camera very much!

I have some very newly acquired tax!

Yes congratulations! I think you're very, very brave to have made this project with little experience of hatching. I would have been way too nervous to try something like this with kids around 🤣. I hope everything goes fine from now on!

we got it this morning, and for the first time in a month or more the soil is properly wetted. Makes weeding a doddle!
Tax for off topic chatter

Thank you! We have 10 healthy chicks!

The class has been extremely wonderful, careful, and responsible. They are in love! I may have some future chicken keepers in the making! Very little handling as we don’t want them to be stressed. ❤️
