It is a temporary setup. Our predator threat is extremely low, heat is a bigger killer. I believe that the smell of our 12 dogs deter foxes and coyotes. I may try to move them in with the Silky rooster and his 2 hens as they have lots of space. Failing that I will build another pen.

How many do you think you can keep?

Given the amount of hens I think that 12 is max capacity. Am at just a little over 2 hens per rooster at the moment. Can free range almost everyone together except for the 2 oldest roosters. They have nearly killed each other on multiple occasions.

Getting a couple that just won't throw in the towel makes life difficult all round.
That's about the only time I'll kill and eat a rooster who wasn't on the potential food list. I don't care much if they get on with me but left to nature one would get killed eventually.
