Chickens waiting for food while I clean and refresh the nestboxes.

How often do you need to clean the nest boxes and what are you removing? Other than the occasional feather I rarely have anything to clean. Do have to add pine shavings every now and then as they break down over time.

Cold and mostly sunny.
Food tray was empty when I arrived. They were a little bit hungry so I'll assume there was either enough with what I left in the tray last night or C had fed them.
I fed the geese as well, just in case. C arrived bringing a bag of feed and changed the water on the goose run.
A few moments after C had left, Carbon went into full alert mode; neck out, head up and I was lucky to look down the field just as a fox trotted through the gate, along the bottom of the field where I lost sight due to a pile of wood. All five headed back to the coop once the danger had past.
What would help me is if I could remember which eye sees long distance and which eye works close up. For a human a 180 degree fast scan is a lot easier and quicker than a full 360 degree.
They came back out after a few minutes. Time to get some new elastic for my slingshot.

Henry has moved along the perch. He's been one perch space away from the wall with the main door in since moving in.

I like to give my chickens fresh bedding every 2-4 weeks. Depending on how it looks. Normally I reuse the old shavings and hay under the roosts as a kind of undeap litter method.

This time the nestboxes were damp and there was cumulating some fungi in one corner. The lid is not completely waterproof anymore.

I need to fix this of course. But today I choose to clean it and I put some fresh straw and hay In it. I ran out of wood shavings and straw is nice in cold weather. The weather forecast expects some cold weather (for NL with a mild see climate).

The fresh hay is also a reward for the eggs I get since I got back from my vacation. The chickens who sit in the nest like eating a little fresh hay too.

Have you actually seen a fox before at the allotment?
I remember you were afraid they would come one day. But a fox at daylight gives me a uncomfortable feeling .

Yes a few times at dusk and they've been brief sightings. This I think was fox. It's a Vixen who lives/lived in the brush beween the allotments and C's house and she's a lot smaller then the fox I saw today.
Yup, out in daylight doesn't bode well. I wondered if the male had come courting.

Lets hope not! If the Vixen gets babys she becomes a worse treat.
