Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I've been there and timed routes to and from to key places. Worn my legs out.
It's a flat. I think they're a bit smaller than the one I'm in and slightly more expensive, mainly because they are more recently built.

Not quite sure why you think it's sad I only have three to care for. My ideal would be four or five. I have to think about what I do quite carefully. Get too many Ex Battery hens while Carbon and Fret are alive and they'll get sidelined I think. The Ex Battery hens tend to be quite aggressive initially. They've had to fight for everything and it takes them a while to appreciate that there are plenty of resources for all. Also, some at least, make a B line for Henry. They don't have men in the batteries.:p
My rsl's are always starving. They have the same access to 24/7 feed, just hungry girls even with slow lay now. I'm just happy for no repro issues yet 🤞🤞.
As lovely as the ladies are, I hope dh does not surprise me with any more.

Our pet rooster we call Buster has fathered 5 sons that look just like him. He chases them because they can fly faster to the top of the hoop houses than he can. We will keep the biggest one of the bunch as Buster II and let him free range with 3-5 pullets to keep us in meat and eggs. Buster is a black sex link and favors his Barred Rock mother so I think he will get barred rocks for his ladies.

Seriously, just when I thought my frizzle was really getting deep with me conversation wise, she tried to eat a strand of my hair.View attachment 3564165
"Closer... closer... I want to tell you a secret...right there..." Peck!
LOL They give you that look, and it is almost to late by the time you realize they are suckering you in..lol

And: What does it mean to give a wry grin?
Wry commonly means humorous in a way that’s very “dry,” irreverent, ironic, sarcastic, or sardonic. The sense of word is especially used in the terms wry humor and wry wit.
This sense of wry is a figurative extension of its literal sense, which means crooked, lopsided, contorted, or distorted. It can also mean contrary or perverse.
A wry smile and a wry expression are probably both somewhat contorted and intended to indicate a sense of irony or sarcasm. You might give a wry smile after telling a particularly wry joke (the kind of joke that’s so dry that it’s hard to tell whether it’s a joke).
The related word awry can be used as an adverb form of wry or as an adjective meaning wrong in some way (amiss) or slanted or twisted (askew).
Example: It takes a while to get used to her wry sense of humor, but she’s not as cynical as she sounds.

Ex Batts good morning one and all!

Temperature is in the 80s and very hot.

Have a great day!
87 here, I am soooo over summer. I am glad that we got the fans for the coop and run, and added all the deep shade. Our chickens seem pretty comfortable, no heavy panting and they all look well hydrated. I went down and sat with the for a few hours during the hottest part of the day and it was pretty comfortable in the shade with the fan circulating the air.

Two and a half hours yesterday.
They didn't venture far. Lima used to be the one to take the adventuring lead and her influence, or rather lack of it, is noticeable. Ella would venture on her own but Fret would often go with Lima. Henry stays close to me most of the time, rarely venturing out of sight.

Henry knows bucket man is good. :) It has to be hard on Fret without Lima, it is easier to brave when you have backup.
