Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Do anyone’s chickens eat crabgrass? I thought it was couch grass in the UK, but no. Mine love different types of grass, but are pretty meh about crabgrass.

I lieu of mowing our massive 3’x10’ stretch of grass on one side of the walkway, we moved the chicken fence in include it. They mowed it down in two days flat, but not the crabgrass.

We then moved the fence to include the other side, which has a LOT of crabgrass, but no joy. (Note: the neighborhood songbirds had already stripped the blueberries.)

Will they eat crabgrass when they’re hungry enough, ideally before killing the normal grass, or is this project doomed?

What kind of essential nutrients are residing in your beard ? 😇
Well I don't think they know it's made out of keratin. 2 out of 3 times I go there to feed them, so why wouldn't I be made out of food? She probably thinks "Mmm this is some delicious looking brown grass".

Hard to tell with CX if they just relate you to giving food or actually like you. I do think they actually like me and I do think it's grooming, just a bit too rough sometimes. Furthermore, they sit on my lap and I can always see them eye pinning. I have the eye pinning on video but BYC doesn't allow me to upload it :he

Bristol has a harbour festival around this time every year. Twenty years ago it was a good day out. These days it's too commercial and too crowded and I no longer go. One highlight this year was a replica Spanish Galleon visited.
This is it leaving Bristol on its way down the River Avon heading out to sea.

Wasn’t the wreck of the Spanish Armada an explanation for the sudden appearance of black-haired, brown-eyed children in the British Isles?

Also, no sails are up! Are they cheating with an engine?! 🤨🤔🧐

We saw a replica in San Pedro. As far as I can remember they've got an engine. Can't go with out it or something like that. And a flashy light too.

Well, that does make sense.

And usually these are used as training vessels for the various national navies, so I think they are able to proceed under sail when allowed.

(Preparing to sing in the chorus for Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Sea Symphony”, so I’ve got sails on the brain!)

Three hours today. Rain this morning. Mainly dry this afternoon. We seem to have a soon to be dead at problem if it doesn't leave the chickens alone.
Sylph and Mow were not interested in going far from me and the run today due to the stalking and attempted attack by the cat yesterday.:(
None of the small birds were apparent today.:(
