these days I find so much presentation and largely irrelevant content on most of the sites and some of the books I've tried to read, I just don't have the patience to wade through it all.

ditto. In my experience, recipe websites take the biscuit for vacuous content and repetition, but verbosity and style over substance seems to be creeping into the printed word too. I think that is why AI is so successful for the moment; it gets to the point quickly (even if the point it finds is tosh). Is our response to all the drivel what they mean by 'brain rot'?

That’s me in my courses, especially the field ecology ones. I know what something is, but the name simply won’t float up to my consciousness. At 2 a.m., I can name them all. It’s incredibly irritating.

Everything is being "dumbed down" and over loaded with flash imaging and an over abundance of "perky", to attract those with limited attention spans and those susceptible to flashy colourful advertising.

Well, I can think of a few prominent people for whom that cap fits but there are still lots of deep thinkers around, and you can hear them if you block out the megaphones and the sirens.

The word skibidi was just added to the Cambridge Dictionary. I’m probably spelling that wrong but it doesn’t really matter, does it? Since when has gibberish or slang gotten into a dictionary? It’s not like recent generations invented new words or are the first to use slang. It’s the fall of Rome around here

The OED maintains a higher standard than the Cambridge Dictionary, but still adds words from all manner of sources every year. It has to, in order to preserve English as a living language rather than a dead one.
