Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Two hours of freedom. Five hours of my day providing it.
This really sucks. (Is it allowed to say so?)

Did you ever consider/ try to rehome the chickens to an allotment or another garden nearer to where you live.
2 times more than an hour is too much, whenever there is a problem with your health, if you ask me. 2x more than 2 hours is undoable. Especially if you are not fit. :hugs :hugs :hugs

Just thinking out loud:
Maybe there is a place nearby where chickens can be part of a national trust? Or someone near, who has an enormous garden who likes help with gardening and loves chickens too? A city park with animals? A children’s zoo? A park near a home for sick or elderly.

Oh me too. And I am so sensitive to the guillotine thing I refuse to have an automatic door for them!
I have 2 auto doors and experience with 3. The all have/had plastic doors
The doors close slowly, so they have the chance to go through anyway. And it stops if a ball ( or a chicken) is in the opening when it’s closing.

I have been reading many doors like this are not very safe for racoons.

Bugger. Is this post-strike disruption / some other issue, you think, or does it happen often?
An hour each way is about average. Best I've done is 40 minutes. Depending on the time of year there can be 4 kilometers of walking included in to and fro travel, sometimes more. My median step count per day is 8300 steps outside the flat complex. I used to do more in Catalonia while working with the various other creatures on the smallholding.

i did 17.76 miles at work yesterday (over 41,000 steps).

Two hours today. It stayed dry but got chilly by dusk.

I turned over the fence post offcuts that had been lying on the ground,
Slaters!:drool:lol:

They also got a few defrosted prawns.

We got most of the what was edible off the cooking apple tree over the last few days. A few people making apple crumble at the flats.

I do a lot of walking for work, too. I've deliberately turned OFF those sorts of tracking info. I truly do NOT want to know.
I feel like it's quite convenient though - you don't have to pay to go to a gym and walk on a treadmill, or fight traffic riding a bike, whatever. You can just go home and sit on the couch justifiably.
Tax: my Welsummer Cornelia is looking ragged in her first molt. I know everyone else has been through this, but it's my first time. She screams and runs if I try to touch her, poor thing. DH said she looks like a turkey
