Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Yorkshire pudding cooked in dripping, rolled up around a thin layer of damson jam, dunked in the partly cooled and set dripping from the pan as you eat it :drool:drool

Oh ffs, am I gonna need to start tidbitting over dead leaves so she thinks I'm just as daft as the other numpties here?
Well, as long as the real rooster doesn't get pissy about it I suppose it's harmless but I really don't like it when hens crouch for me if I touch them.
I've got the problem now with Sylph. Mow doesn't do it. I don't cuddle either of them although both will jump on to my lap from time to time. I'm not sure why they do in most cases. It's not about food. It's not because they feel under threat and want safety.
Of course I enjoy it but I don't know what it means.
In some respects it's great to have that level of trust because it makes catching the hens so much easier and the easier it's done, the less stress all round. The downside is I'm not to be trusted as they would their rooster.
Assuming I get a rooster at the field, I want the hens to transfer to him as quickly as possible.

It's hard to discourage. Fat Bird and Ruffles lost their rooster in Catalonia. I had them both in my house most of the day for a while. A young cockerel called Cillin who had had his mum predated before she had introduced him to her tribe came under my care and he used to spen a lot of time in the house as well.
I could see straight away that Ruffles fancied him but Fat Bird was distinctly unimpressed. Her man had been Major, the rooster in my avatar. Cillin sort of hung around the edges for a few weeks. Then he started walking them back to their coop at night. (Bear in mind I'm acting rooster and that's part of the job).
One evening after Fat Bird and Ruffles had gone into the coop, Cillin climbed the ramp and poked his head through the door and made a call. I heard Ruffles answer and in he went. It took ages before Fat Bird would crouch for him; Ruffles was throwing herself at him for days.:D
Even after the tribe grew a couple of generations, Fat Bird would still split from the tribe and come to my house.:love

I love reading your Fat Bird stories.

It's a pile of crap.
The camera is wonderful; the operating system, or should I write the google layer, is just awful.
It needs a much more powerful processor.
It's always pushing pop ups, or drop downs, asking if you would like to do this or that and all I want is them off the screen so I can see what I'm doing!
There are lots of features that are just short of being bugs that just don't make sense, display changes for no apparent reason, can't scroll to logins (probably the applications problem) but the pixel doesn't deal with them well.
Frankly, my old Blackview is/was a better phone for what I want a smart phone for at least. It just weighs a ton and the camera is crap.
I keep meaning to give GrapheneOS a try but....
As someone who's using GrapheneOS, I surely don't miss all the bloatware of stock android! I love it, but it sometimes has comparability issues that I assume android probably wouldn't have. Though if you're having similar issues maybe it's just an android thing. Either way, it can require a bit of troubleshooting and workarounds. That being said, aside from Reddit, nothing has been able to show me ads since I switched! If you do switch, I'd recommend backing up any photos/documents or other files you care about, because I think it kind of wipes the slate clean. I wouldn't know, I switched as soon as I got the phone, but something to be ready for nonetheless

It wipes the phone, yes.

I have Sync for Reddit patched with Revanced so it'll still work on my phone. No ads.

I got given a traditional cold remedy by the mother of my son in law; they're Polish. Onion, garlic and horseradish blended in warm water.:sick
Wow. Shock that virus right out of your system.
Chocolate for breakfast sounds so much better.
I'm supposed to be grading papers right now.

Interesting, I'll have to look into that! I like looking at the chicken subreddit, but it's rife with misinformation and poor care practices. I much prefer threads like these :P
Reddit's good for a lot of other stuff though. I have a lot of niche interests, and as silly as it sounds I trust the opinion of a stranger on the internet more than a blog post about daikon by someone who's never touched a garden bed (probably written by ai)

Tax: Fall colors and molting.

Stilton always has a couple weeks where he sports a Bruce Willis widow's peak.

Patchy looking, mostly tail-less molters in a favorite dustbathing area.
