Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

From today:

You can hear the wind blowing in the audio.
I'm sitting out on the deck with my laptop, with the chickens wandering around. I played this back, and at the end looked up to see five chickens staring on full alert, wondering where the strange birds were.

But, have you seen the price of proper marine ply these days!
Maybe ask @gtaus for advice?
He has cheap solutions for many things.
Like using free pellets for almost everything.

I frequently say to my husband, “Did you just mansplain that to me?” There needs to be a word for adolescents who think they know everything and are happy to tell you all about something you learned long before they were born. I call it teensplaining.

Finally I understand the meaning of explaining!

It’s only mansplaining if it’s unsolicited explanations for something the persona already knows.

I have an appointment for an assessment for cataract correction later this month.
I'm quite nervous at the prospect of having the operation. The only other operation I've walked in for willingly, I've been out cold before I got there for a couple:p, was to have my wrists slashed for carpal tunnel syndrome. I watched the whole thing.
I must point out that I didn't go and do as the eldest has said "went and got his wits slashed."
Easiest and most worthwhile surgery ever. No pain whatsoever and your vision should be perfect for at least 10 years. I was nervous too but it was great.

Haha, below your post, you’ll see the Report button, and to the right, 3 dots. Click the dots, and there will be a dropdown menu, including “Edit”. Click that, and there you go. (Very new members may not have this yet? Can’t remember.)

Why Xenforo (the vendor that supplies this particular forum to many social media sites) hides the edit function like this is a continuing mystery to me.
Thank you! I type on my phone and need it way too often

I used to get ridiculed for speaking properly, even by my own family, I was actually accused of being a snob (although sometimes more rude terms were used.) because I did not use contractions or slang most of my childhood and teen years, but it was just the way I spoke.

I spent most of my early life interacting primarily with adults, and a LOT of that time was with my great grandmother and great grandfather who are Scottish and Welsh. I think that this is why I do not have a lot of conversations outside of work or the Egg Thief, I have tried to adopt the "normal" phraseology, but it just gets all mixed up to the point that nothing sounds quite right to my ear. 🤣
If only my students worried so much about using correct grammar, grading research papers would be so much more pleasant.
This whole conversation has confirmed for me that we are a bunch of nerds. I'm proud to "know" you all.

I had one cataract surgery, worst part was the drops prior. I love being able to drive without glasses, and seeing better at night.
Yeah, I was actually legally blind when they discovered my cataracts. I kept passing my own street at night and had lived here for years. I made an appointment to see the doctor when one of my sons walked in the room and I couldn't tell which one until he spoke.
I was in surgery 2 days after the appointment. It was unexpected because I was just 50.
Still, great surgery and easy recovery. And it's so amazing to be able to see again!
