Or lettuce?

The OEGB pullets aren't laying yet, but appear to be integrating in Silas' flock anyway.

None of mine are that keen on lettuce as a food.

The littles had a great time partying in between the giant heads of lettuce on the next plot over recently though. Luckily that neighbour doesn't really mind the odd chicken visitor.
I gave them looseleaf lettuce, darker green and more tender than head lettuce.

I've offered mine a whole range of different types and varieties - all freshly grown at the plots, not supermarket iceberg rubbish or anything. They'll sometimes have a nibble but they tend to just ignore it after that.

Mine LOVE grapes, hence my BYC title.

When I chose Speckled Sussex I was under the impression that they were quiet.

Not mine:

Do any of yours have deep voices once their voices change? Tessa is a baritone, sounding like she goes through 2 packs a day and a half bottle of whiskey.

So do mine and we have loads growing in the polytunnel at the moment. Lettuce is about the only "edible" plant I can think of that they have access to but won't eat by choice.

Brassicas are always a favourite and most of them love chard. They eat dockens and dandelion with such enthusiasm that I've had to start transplanting more from other places where they'd be considered weeds! They'll eat smaller amounts of nettles and common hogweed too, apart from one point earlier in the year when they were all going mad for the hogweed for some reason. They really like the long, coarse cocksfoot grass that grows in big clumps as well. Chickweed, goose grass and clover don't survive long in places they have regular access to but I can either take them to visit places where they grow or bring some to them.

They're doing a lot more scratching and digging at the moment, looking for insects and grass and other seeds that have ripened and dropped on the ground from what I can see.

Not that I've noticed. Martha was chatty, and Joanna is probably her daughter if it's an inherited trait.

I really need to get a video of that Fayoumi chick when it isn't so windy. She has the strangest voice!

Partly I think she's a bit hoarse from constantly flying up on things or exploring away from the others and then having to shout to find them again, but some of the noises she makes are just weird.
