Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Halloween has totally confused me this year - there were little kids out trick or treating (which is a foreign tradition and not what they should be doing in my opinion, but anyway... :duc) earlier this week. Not sure if that was to fit in around some event on the night itself, or the weather, or what.
I agree.
Guy Fawks Day has undergone the same fate. It seems to have spread over a couple of weeks. Worse still, it's being called bonfire night a lot.

Ruins the history of the day in my opinion.

I won't start on Christmas.:rant

I went somewhere very recently and they already had the big Christmas tree up. In the middle of October.

We're meant to be having an allotment 'bonfire night' next weekend  but that's mostly down to a combination of the weather and me not being organised enough to arrange anything sooner.

The Ba is a big part of Christmas here for a lot of folk. Seeing the wooden barriers go up across doors and windows in town feels like the start of the festive period to me. In Stromness we have the Yule Log Pull at Hogmanay and then there's a repeat of The Ba on New Year's Day back over in town.

I'm going to try and introduce the tradition of wassailing in January. Our trees need all the help they can get :lau

Two hours today. Windy, damp, but above 10C.

Thinking about Lima this afternoon.
When she was sick.

Recovering. An extraordinary hen.

Something has changed. I'm not sure what. The change is to do with them, not me. It seems Glais has learned something but again, I'm not sure what.
The only behaviour that obviously shows a change is the roosting and the positions. Glais has roosted next to Sylph the past couple of nights and now roosts between the two. There's more when one views them out but I can't adequately describe it.

I know exactly what you mean about noticing something but not being able to describe it. Sounds like it seems like a positive change, though?

We've not had one child show up on Halloween in 19 years.
31 years here.

There was a story about people who hand out potatoes for Halloween on the news last night. So if we do get any trick-or-treaters, I will give out purple potatoes. Or three or four of them, because they're Fun-Size (fingerling).
