Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I've mentioned before that broodies here just drift away from their broods when they think the time is right, and a few days back that Paprika had initiated it with her Sept brood, as she was ignoring their cheeps. I've since seen them together again, including this morning, and I got a snap. Filing it reminded me that she carried on reuniting periodically with her Sept 2023 brood even when they were as big or bigger than her!

She really is an exceptional broody.

He loves to swing his face flaps, any time something makes him happy. Oldie but goodie:
I wasn’t sure how to react with this, so went with an impressive wow. Also laugh and love, but could only pick one. Methinks he would qualify as The Farrah Fawcett of waggling wattlers.
Riddick would like to be considered due to his jaunty beret
What a beret! How very dark and enigmatical he looks while wearing it in the snow

Two and a half hours. A bit of drizzle here and there but mostly dry with some sunshine
Had a bit of a problem getting them out from the coop extension. They came out to feed, ate a bit then something startled Glais. He ran back to the coop and Mow and Sylph followed. I went and got them out. Ushered them towards the goose run. Mow and Sylph happily foraging then Glais did it again. It was a sea gull a couple of hundred feet up.
Ushered the out again. Glais tried to stop them coming out. Got them all out and I had to herd them all with two lengths of cane as I used to do with the geese.
Glais did it again but I stopped it the second the hens started to follow. I stood out with them no more than a couple of metres away for a bit over an hour after which they settled for a while under the favourite fruit bush.

I think both Mow and Sylph sort of like Glais but wish he would grow up. He still charges at them a lot. No contact, I'm not sure it it's just youthful exuberance or attempts to intimidate.
