Take a look at his ears (compared to other chickens' ears) and get a picture if you can. It might help if someone can assist; it's hard to hold the bird and a camera at the same time. Let us know what you find. We're here to help.

Ok, so I checked him completely out tonight. His breath and mouth are good, no signs of anything there. His crop was firm so I’ll check it in the morning. I also looked at a few other hen ears to compare, he has gunk in his ears, it’s yellowish/whitish and glandular. I did find a few mites in the usual places, under his wings, but not many. I treated him and will work on the rest of the flock this weekend. I wasn’t able to get a picture by myself. I’ll have help tomorrow and will take pictures of his ears. Not sure if I should try to clean his ears out. How far can I go inTake a look at his ears (compared to other chickens' ears) and get a picture if you can. Hello, his breth is good, no signs of anything in his back, looks good. His crop is was full tonight so I’ll check again in the AM to make sure it’s ok. I did see some yellow gunk in his ears. Cleaned them out

What did you use to treat the mites/lice?I’ll have help tomorrow and will take pictures of his ears. Not sure if I should try to clean his ears out. How far can I go inthe gunk looks to be real close to the opening.
Thank you, how long should I keep him on amoxicillin? The peroxide treatment in the ear once, and putting plain Neosporin/Triple Antibiotic Ointment in the ear would probably help. Ointments will kill mites as well. Amoxicillin or Bactrim would both work on bacterial ear infection. Fish Mox amoxicillin capsules sometimes is found in feed stores, but easy to find online. Dosage is 125-250 mg twice a day for a 5 pound chicken.
Thank you, if I have Tylosin how do I mix this for his use only? I also have amoxicillin? I will clean his ears out today. What did you use to treat the mites/lice?
Sounds like he has an ear infection. It could be due to mite infestation or something else.
Drop 1 drop of Hydrogen Peroxide in the ear, let it bubble up and then swab with your qtip, work on getting the gunk out of the ears, then put a little neosporin inside the ears. You may need to repeat the cleaning out of the ears every few days.
Depending on the cause of the infection - could be mites, he may need an oral antibiotic. Tylosin would be a good choice.
