Share weird guinea stories here!

My one male guinea does not like that "other guinea" who does everything he does, including spar with him. He spars with the "other guinea" who is in the mirror along the bottom of my Ford 250, and in the mirror just inside my front door.

I thought it was funny when I locked up the 2 males for fighting with my sweet roo and their mates stayed right by the guinea prison - day and night, while their men were doing time.

I think guineas mate for life... that's probably why they wouldn't go away.

Most of my birds I can "figure out" their motivations and what they need (food, water, shelter, egg nest, etc). With the guineas FORGET IT! I have NO clue what goes on in their crazy heads... they run in circles and look at weird stuff and charge immobile objects.... how did the species ever survive!?

Nope, they just get crazy whenever they can't get the whole flock back together when they want to.

I can't think of any silly stories but I've got more holes in my yard from dust bathing guineas then my 2 labs have ever dug their entire lives!

Yeah. Also, my guineas are tough! They are stronger, wire-ier, more hardy, with sharper knife-like claws than any mean roo any day. even when mine have gotten injured and near-incapacitated (by a dog once) they refused to be handled or coddled in any way. And recovered, too. Thank goodness they don't attack people...

I like how my guineas frantically run back and forth along the fence line, in a 3 foot area, back and forth back and forth, making all kinds of noise, they can't find the way out...
if they would go 3 foot and 1 inch there is a big 4 foot opening where the gate is wide open.
???????
What are they thinking????

What are they thinking????

And herein lies your mistake.

Last night I got them all to follow me into the run but one. He's running frantically back and forth ignoring the door I KNOW he saw everyone else use. Then another one decided to run back outside and join him. I think they do it on purpose!

Yes, the thinking part baffles me also... my DH says they have a brain (I don't think they have one at all) the size of a pea, if that!!!

I just found this thread, I know it's a little old, but the guinea stories are cracking me up!!!

mine! They are insane, paranoid hypochondriacs!

The other day they were in the small backyard and the air conditioner kicked on...they've been coming in that particular backyard on a daily basis for months. I know it's not the first time they've heard the air conditioner, but all of a sudden they both start screaming and running around in circles. The chickens start running, because obviously some huge invisible monster is coming to eat them all! Then, it cuts off, the guineas go back to whatever they were doing, and the chickens were still upset and looking for whatever the danger was.

It took a while for them to calm down! LOL!

They do seem to be really bonded to each other. Somehow I ended up with a pair and they adore each other. I had one younger baby survive (from a different batch) and the female immediately started "mothering" it.

I was shocked. I had no idea they were so maternal. It will peck the chickens if they get too close, but they walk around with the baby (who is just now starting to look like a guinea!) and feed it and help it find its way around.

I'd love to have some more, but I seem to have a hard time growing them.

I'm hoping the hen will use the chickens' nest boxes and lay some eggs for me.

I'd love to have a big flock of them!

Mine also do the "unable to find the gate" thing. They have tried to force their way through the chainlink rather than walking 2 inches over to the gate.

I try to hold them, but they are convinced that I am going to torture them, but they will come and stand on my feet at snacktime. I'm happy with that.

They also come when I call them. I do have to call them, not just the chickens, but I have to call them while I am calling the chickens, otherwise, the chickens run off and leave them, and they are terrified to run down the 20 foot driveway from the barn to the backyard...even if they can see us.

Hopefully some more people post guinea stories. They are very unique creatures! LOL!

My guinea hens have a nest on the otherside of a fence. There is a 9 inch hole in the fence. That is how they got there in the first place. I fixed the hole . Now they walk a quarter mile around the fence to lay their eggs in the same spot and walk back. The fence ends in ten feet in the other direction. They walk past the opening many times a day but still take the long way to lay the eggs.

I love this thread. It makes me laugh every time! I have 3 dozen eggs in the bator now and 7 days left to go. It won't be long until I have my own funny stories.
