I did for our coop.

They loved it. Especially the Guineas! All 8 of them at once! Plus the OEGB.
LOL thanks for this photo. I had guineas for a year before adding 5 chickens last Sept. Am wanting to add and plan for a dust bath as they all made lot of holes in their yard! I fenced in a wooded area that had 10" of loam and thought it would take years for them to scratch through. Hah. Little did I know- it was gone in 3 months! Anyway, the guineas dug out everything I put in my cement planters on my front porch (before I built them their own yard). No matter what I put in to 'fill' it up and discourage them they dug it out- rocks, pebbles, piles of mulch, thick plants...
This looks like ashes here. Is it just grey dirt? It was funny watching them standing to take their turns in the planter. I read here they like being in it together to will plan for a box in their coop.

I used a plastic container that was about 2x the size of a shoe box and put in a good layer of peat moss, then a mix of wood ash and sand. So far, I only see a large pile of poop on it. No marks of any activity... ?

Ok so I'm new to the chicken world, is it normal for my 3 week old chicks to take a dust bath? They are in the brooder box, it looks like they're using feed they kicked out of there feeder to dust in. Is it normal for them to seem tired and breathe hard after?

My 2 week old Barred Rock, Nugget, LOVES dust bathing. She gets pine shavings everywhere, but still fun to watch!

Look what the girls got today! We put together an official dirt bathing area for them! :) They aren't quite sure about it yet.
