Sharing Information

While I'm thinking about it. I've heard that you shouldn't keep Peafowl with chickens, my dad has always told me this because a peafowl breeder mentioned it to him long ago. He never knew what caused it, so does anyone have any info on this? Is it the same issues with Turkeys getting blackhead and dying?

Yep it is the same thing with peafowl for the blackhead. Some breeders do keep peafowl and chickens together without any problems. You can free-range them together. I wouldn't chance it keeping them together but many do keep them together. It all depends on you and if you want to try and keep them together or not. Some people have chickens hatch out their peachicks and raise them.

I will try to keep my post so they are not negative...........don't want to come across like that type of a person. I don't live my life that way, sure don't need to do that here. I want to when i leave this world, not have anyone hating me....

Thanks again to all......

I'm here if anyone need help......I have so many friends on here.....they do more good for me than words could tell.

[Plus i get to enjoy all those great pics of your birds.......

DT minxfox is correct.......blackhead is a killer of turkey and peafowl. Chicken can be carrier with no harm to the chicken.

Keeping chicken on a good worming program would help. or keeping a closed flock.

Myself i never had to treat for blackhead, but never mixed turkey or peafowl with chicken.

I also raised peachicks same as poults.......

I see alot of the extra peacocks sold at spring auction........many get bought for taxidermy.

Last spring i saw a man buy nothing but full grown peacocks 36 of them....so i ask why so many males....yep taxidermy. most sold 100 to 200 each

Aww poor birds too bad they all had to go to a taxidermist. I have thought though that a peacock would make a really great taxidermy for like the wall or something. Not that I am going to go grab one of my peacocks and kill him but I have to say if one that I like died it would be tempting to have it made into a really nice mount especially since we know a guy who does amazing taxidermy.
