Twice I have found 2 hens sitting in the same box together. One is a BO and the other is a SLW. It looks like the BO is in the box first and the SLW joins her (unknown if it's the same BO as we have 3, but it's definitely the same SLW. They both lay an egg :)

I have that happen too.
My chickens like to lay in the boxes that are on the sides.
I have a row of three nesting boxes and they only lay on the left box or the right box, never the middle box?
So when theres three chickens wanting to lay an egg they choose to squish in the left or right box, lol!
Do your chickens only like the nest boxes on the sides?

Fake eggs or golf balls in all the nests can help 'spread the love'.
Sharing nests can be cute, but can also be stressful and lead to broken eggs.

We have five nesting boxes in a row. The end box farthest from the coop door is the favorite. I don't know why. When we come home and gather eggs at the end of the day, we'll find as many as 7 eggs in that one box.

I took advantage of a nice late-winter day yesterday to clean out the coop. After I was done, I went back into the coop and saw that we were having nest box ownership issues:

That's three good-size hens in one box. The box is 12" X 12" X 12". It's a roll away box, so the floor isn't even flat.
