Sharing our "Quail Cam" currently watching a hatch!

Yeah, we have a lamp on a timer there. I didn't think it would be good for the chicks to be lit 24/7. The green dot most be a reflection of the camera on the plastic!

It doesn't hurt anything. My chicks neverhave the light off until they are past 4 weeks old. Only a few thousand have survived me doing that over the years lol.

My limited view, I like the idea of natural light rhythms however the fact is the incubator and brooder are artificial, indoors, and only represent the natural hen , the light, very low intensity, facilitates inspection and gives my chicks some visual bearing, the sun comes up and down in intensity slowly, lights turn on suddenly , I have found that the light on all the time for first 4 weeks works best for me , when I put the light on a timer the suddenness of the light coming on startled the chicks making them jump After four weeks it is relevant to their maturing and breeding cycles and they are less insecure. I currently run 14 to 16 hours for breeders.Very low light 4 to 7 watts .like they were in the shade hiding in grass or bushes, they seem to like to have it that way. Mine don't like to be in the open or exposed. When I had brighter light I had aggressive and self destructive behavior which is hard to reverse, I also notice that the roo very rarely crows under low light every one is happy clappy chirpy chirpy harmonious and an egg a day per hen non stop. Cheers, great idea the cam , good luck.
