I don't care how many roos I end up with. What concerns me is the potential noise. In the past year, 3 of my roos have died, so the one left is a silkie roo who doesn't crow all that much because he was never in charge. And the neighbor's roo is 3-4 years old, and doesn't crow very much anymore. Gee I am missing the noise, the chorus, LOL. I hope the neighbors are missing them too and will be relieved when there's new crowers.

Not for nothing, but I just LOVE those mornings when you hear a cockerel practice his crow for the first time. Then I have to go out and figure out who it is! I live for those moments.

5 hens per roo is doable for sure, isn't it?

And I'm with you, I love hearing it! Reminds me that someone bigger than me created all these wonderful creatures and I get to share life with some of them. Makes me more than happy. I still say chickens are great therapy!

I alway suspected it, Lovins, but that is proof. Yer a PERV!!!!!

Anyways, I can't stack eggs in my bator cause it shifts too much. So I took a very thin piece of duct tape and rested the egg on two other eggs and gently taped it to the inside wall on one end of a brinsea octagon 20. One of my d'uccle eggs was like that for a while and it didn't seem to hurt it. Its developing.

I looked for little eggie handcuffs and couldn't find them.

MY CHICKS FAY AND CARRIE DIED!!!

I have never had a chick die on me -especially ones that were so alive and big-they were the biggest out of this batch-they were fine last night when I went to bed. I fed them cleaned them and went to bed. I get up this am to say hello to my babies and the teddy bear that was in there was knocked over and when I picked it up there were my babies-flattened out and gone...This truly sucks..happy Wednesday to me huh?? My one and only BLRW gone!!! I mean it she was the biggest one in the brooder-no blood on either-no picking or anything just died! I think they got bonked by the little soft bear and got stomped on as they couldnt get out from under it? I cant really see that happening as the teddy bear is so little and light-I took it out!

Nat...I am so sorry

I, too, lost 2 brahma chicks...IDK what hpnd either. The only thing I can think of was they were out of water for a lil bit...(we had to work late....again...)

On a good note tho....I have one lemon blue chick out and another egg pipped!

Actually I am not sure and wanted your help.
They all hatched from brown eggs
4 are yellow and 3 of them have reddish tinges
One has a dark back and an yellow belly
one is chipmunk
and one is trying to be chipmunk

All look like they have muffs except the chipmunk. This little one needed hatching help and looks errr.. odd, almost like a gamefowl with a "shamo" type of stance and is still figuring to balance issues!!!!

So ... what are they???
