Aww jeez hon. I was in the shower, didn't see your posts until now. It'll be ok
The impulse buy's aren't actually a bad thing in themselves. Alot of people get started with their love affair with chickens that way. Yes, I'm sure some people will be stupid about it, but anything that involves people will mean that sometimes things won't have a happy ending. I know how heartbroken you were about the chicks at
tsc. And it's entirely possible those chicks ended up going to good homes. I know in my area, ts chickdays are the only way alot of people buy their chicks. Some do go to agway, but most people quite often don't know or care what breed they are, etc. They just want chickens that will lay eggs for them, and fill their freezers with meat. They aren't really impulse buys, but to them, chickens are just animals, put here to sustain us. So
tsc makes it easy and cheap for them to do this. Yes, the bins are often over-crowded, but they sell quickly. And no the employees don't take care of them up to my standards. I just try to remind myself that this is life, what one person considers a pet with benefits, others will just see an economical way of feeding their families. Take some consolation in the fact that there are now 50,000 members on byc, with more joining everyday. Those are all people who are interested in raising chickens in a better fashion, many of whom probably bought impulse chickens at
tsc, and did some research on how to care for them, which led them to byc, and they will become good chicken owners because of it.
