I sold a pullet, one of those BLRW at our swap for $10 I could not belive it as young as they are, the oldest were born on feb

I guess hatchery chicks are so cheap to buy compared to most of the ones we hatch from purchased eggs. No way we can recoup costs on the NICER birds, especially if the hatches are poor.

I know-alot of people dont realize the work and years involved into creating such beautiful birds. They want eggs and meat-thats whats mostly around me and its tough! I bought the chicks for 9$ each ( had them shipped) they are well worth it but not all the roos-I hate to say it but if I dont get rid of them by next week Ill try and give them to someone or process them I guess???

I was very interested because I love mottled birds, but I think klf was actually going to create them. Looks like you have a pretty good start, there! Pretty!

I'm SO glad it is blooming right away! I didn't know if it would or not. I cut off 2 bloomstalks that were coming up when I trimmed it, so I was wondering if it just wouldn't be able to stand it and try to bloom!

I have 2 hens, one hetero and one homozygous mottled but they are blue..... they are someone else's project and I was going to work on it....I hatched them 2 years ago and never got a roo for them (for once I hatched 5 pullets). I am going to keep one of the blacks I have now and pen them up but can't take credit for them. I will try to get a pick of my blue mottled girl sometime soon. I was going to work on mille fleur but none of my bantam ameraucana hatched so not sure what I am going to do....
on another note, my opal oegb eggs are doing great, hoping at least one(of 3) is visual opal. I am supposed to pick up another coop monday with dh

What do you think of this bird? At 7 weeks, Do you think she'll get more, or it will molt out?

Hey sharks (and anyone), have a special request:
I am looking for double or even triple yolker eggs to image and write up in a scientific journal. No one actually knows much about what happens in this situation, shared blood supply, orientation, why they fail to hatch, and developmental abnormalities etc. With MRI you can see into the egg while it is developing, and at several time points. There is so much to learn.

Any egg from any species at any stage of development would be AWESOME. Chickens, Peafowl,, anything - the bigger the better. So if you have set any that have failed to hatch PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT THROW THEM AWAY: SEND THEM TO ME!! I will pay for shipping of course, and you will be credited for your material/egg in the paper. Also any such eggs that you do not want to set I would be very happy to buy from you. Double yolkers do not travel that well, but I could incubate them here and get serial imaging of development if you do not plan on incubating them. Worth a try.

Here is a pic of a singleton egg just before hatch. Not much room in there! It has internally pipped, but note how much of the yolk sac (bright areas) is still external to the chick. The yolk does not seem to totally internalize till just before they emerge, which is one reason why "assisted hatches" do not always work out.

OMG Nat, I have been looking for these for ages, and I knew you all the time!!! Nothing life "looking on your own doorstep" (is that saying too English to understand????). As they ship so badly (normal egg structure not intact - Yes eggs have A LOT of structure), if you start to incubate and they arrest development that would be totally AWESOME TOO.

I am officially on an egg hunt now!!! I have a broody with nothing under her- shes 4 days in and I was not going to let anymore chicks on my property! BUT.... If I get doubles want me to do half and half? Half incubated for a few days or more then half not???
