I spent last evening on a horse/Dressage thread on a forum. Since alot of dressage people are snooty, I was having a problem with my mule but just referred to her as my mare. I didn't think that anyone would take me seriously posting about a mule in a dressage section. But I'm a diehard Dressage practicer, I use it in all my riding, western, gaited, etc. because the basics are the basics, and every horse/mule should learn the basics.

Well I finally let on about BC my mule, and some people were kinda nasty about it, and I explained that I wanted to avoid the bias. One asked me why I'm posting under dressage, and I said she will be doing it, and I am the one asking advice for me, and if the dressage philosophy is correct, then it shouldn't matter what I'm training. And I also said that [real] dressage practicers should be challanged by this in a positive way.

One poster said I should post elsewhere and title should be "Hey, I need help training a mule". I told her that was the bias I was talking about avoiding. I more or less told her that only someone with a [philosophy that's missing pieces] would say something like that.

She accused me of being a troll, and she was wasting her time.

I told her I'm not a troll just someone who believes in the philosophy.

Anyway alot of real nice people offered alot of real solid advice that I will put to good use.

Different message board, same Roo poo.

People can be such pills. Myself included of course.

23 years ago, when I first started showing my dogs, I heard "Wow, that was pretty good since you don't have a (fill in the blank) breed". You can fill the blank in with obedience, tracking, flyball, agility, therapy, herding etc..... They don't say that to me anymore.

I expect one of these days they won't say that to you anymore, either. Aren't mules supposed to be smarter than horses?

I thought I collected a double yolker for you Phage, but I candled it and it's not. Sheesh, I was so hoping it was double, I would have mailed you the single egg!

Thanks anyway for the thought!!

Brindle, mules are too smart. You can't make them do anything. You have to wait till they think your suggestion over. My trainer has always given her a choice, and let her believe that she's the one that's choosing, LOL.

One of the problems we have is that when you try to get on, she keeps backing up so you can't. Unless you put her butt to a wall. Well, because of all the advice, I'm thinking it's because in the beginning, when trying to mount, she probably didn't stand still, so with each attempt, she was backed up to the place she was asked. Once on, she was praised. So maybe in her mind, the backing up was part of what earned her the reward!
Will have to deal with that tomorrow, LOL. Mules are very different than horses. While a horse would run away from a predator, a mule will stay and fight.

And I can certainly believe the snobbery is everywhere. Dogs, well that must be some real serious snarking!

Well I finally rehomed my JG roo, the one who wanted to kill my one eye roo. And I did sweeten the deal with a hen to go along as well. It's too bad he didn't work out because that roo was a real show stopper! The guy who took him just stood at the cage in my car and his jaw remained open for quite some time. Oh well, I have some real cute chicky roos growing. They are from Kathyinmo, from her stock that's from Maria Hall, who is one of the top breeders for Blue JG's.

But now I have an empty small coop that I really needed. My juniors are getting big.

Finally have pips and hear peeping from the Polish eggs from Gretchen and the
showgirl eggs from Fowlrus. One of the pipped eggs is a Lavender Showgirl. We are haying today, so will be busy all day, but will try to check back and keep you posted. ( Just bid on more Fowlrus eggs.) OMG, will this never stop??!!

well, it's official....my one sole survivor(the other one wasn't thriving at all and passed) from Imogene's eggs is a cockeral. It is slow feathering and it's comb is starting to grow

He is huge compared to the chicks he is with and I am rather bummed. I was hoping to at least get a pair before the other one passed but not sure what I am going to do with him now. I think I will still keep him for a while to see if I can get some quality eggs later, hate to waste such a beautiful bird on mediocre stock. I only wanted a trio or quad of these since they are so gorgeous but my main focus is on the ameraucana and araucana.....

sem- the snobby people are EVERYWHERE...I also ran into quite a few when I tried showing (as my girl grew she still wouldn't calm down in the ring and her tailset was a bit low so it wasn't worth the long rides to the shows, not to mention she got car sick

). I did make a couple friends that were newbies also but they are snobby now

I am happy about one thing....my one mille fleur is a cockeral

have any of you ladies tried introducing a standard size bird into a banty pen? I want to put my black ameraucana hen in with my opal oegb trio so I can see if he will be able to breed her, would love to get this color in my ameraucana....

Well, I'm glad he won't be around to harass Handsome, anymore! I'm sure you'll get some real nice roos out od Kathyinmo's hatch.
