We were visiting John's Grandmother, and we have always turned out our dogs in her backyard and then knocked on the door. SOP. At that time one of our dogs was very predacious.

We were inside having a nice chat, when she started telling us about this cute little dog in the back yard and the cute things it did. We were oh sh!+ and piled into the backyard, gathered the dogs and started looking for her cute little dog's remains. Couldn't find 'em.

Turns out she was convinced her cute little dog from before John being born was alive and well and in the backyard! We found this out from her niece who was her caretaker and had gone out to shop while we were there. We almost had heart failure thinking our dog had eaten Grandma's dog!

Yay big bucks! Those are always nice!

Yes they are. We make double time and a half for working holidays, so I am making 20 hours of pay for working 8 hours! Sometimes it sucks, but holidays like this are no biggie.

Bet that added a few gray hairs to your head! I hate dog fights. I had to return two dobes to a well know breeder in TX. They both were terrors. I wouldn't have them in the house with my boy. They were fine with him, but I couldn't risk him getting caught in the middle of a dobe fight. I still bear the scars of breaking up those fights. I've had dobes all my life, but nothing like those two. The breeders euthanized the male and placed the female in a house with a whippet.

Poor whippet, but it was out of my hands at that point.

We got some, but were not very happy with their toes. Out of the 8 we hatched, only 2 are show quality. They are gorgeous birds and if you don't care to loose points for toes, they are great.

acid, everytime I see where you live I keep meaning to ask if you like it there! I know you just bought the house you were renting and I wondered if you grew up there or not. DH and I live in western/central Jersey along Route 78 and are looking to retire to PA.

Our wants are: North of Route 78, Lowes and TSC nearby. And what airport is closest? Looking for 10 to 20 acres and possibly buidling ourselves instead of hunting for the perfect house.

We do like where we live. We aren't out in the sticks, but we aren't in the city either. Walmart is 2 miles away, so is Lowes. We are 30 minutes either direction (west and east) to a big city. We are 30 minutes from Penn State. TSC is in State College where PSU is and there is a fairly decent sized airport there.

You could find 10 to 20 acres around here if you look, but the land values are going up. Our county right now is undergoing drilling operations for natural gas. Most people that are willing to sell are keeping the gas rights, which could really screw up your property if they decide to plop a well head on it. You can find places slightly south of us that the gas company isn't looking at. Check out http://www.wbvrealestate.com/ and look at the land listings. Clinton County has lower taxes than the surrounding counties. I'll keep my eyes open for you, as there's alot of land for sale that could be buildable. There are some lots sitting around that I drive by, just not sure on the acreage, but I'll pay more attention from here on out. On that website, look for mill hall, lock haven, loganton, lamar. Stay completely away from Renovo. That is one place that you don't want to be, it's not a self supporting community at all, and at least a 30 minute drive to get to anything.

Thanks to both of you for the info! We were looking into NY upstate too but if we go to PA, DH's pension isn't state taxed, so an added bonus or incentive!

Our taxes are nuts here! I feel like my parents when I say that, but now I understand! $6000 for a little over a half acre and a 2200sqft house, well, septic, no town police dept. and garbage is another $300 per year! So, $500 per month just for taxes ticks us off a little!
