Hey sem,i will have to say pullet, you see i've discovered a brand new technic on how to sex chicks and from the start i told sem that it was a pullet,so it has to be a pullet in order for this to be true
hu.gif

i've done it once before and i was right,so i'm hoping that is not a fluke. But i'm certain you got a girl.

What is your method? Or are you just saying you have a sixth sense?

Nava and El W, I really did not have a preference for a boy or girl. I just wanted the color more than boy or girl. If it's a boy, my girls will be hap hap happy. They now all squat for me since Ivan is gone.

Mary, it's too dark out to see the color of the legs. Right now they are red from the heat lamp.

The comb. Well, it's one of those in between colors, not red but turning pink on the sides.

I have to say tho, my first 3 chicks were Jersey Giants. Pullet chicks. But one grew a nice pink comb like right away, then it got bigger and turned red pretty quick. I was sure they made a mistake. Till she laid an egg. The other two were way behind her in sex characteristics the whole time. And the one that developed the slowest laid the first egg. So I think orps are like Jerseys, and they'll always be the ones who fool you right up to crowing or laying. And El W has a really good method, and after all the chicks he has sexed correctly, if mine is a boy, it will be his first that didn't work- which will make his method 99% correct instead of 100% correct!

Thanks everyone for the replies and prayers for my daughter. She's having a CAT scan tomorrow for a possible liver abcess (don't think so, but has to be ruled out), and she is being evaluated for a central line placement. She's been stuck so much and had so much through her veins that even here at Duke they can't get blood out of her anymore. So we really want that line. Also, her biliary drain may need to be replaced with a stent. So it depends what we find out how long we will be here. I am sort of hoping for a central line and a quick exit with some IV antibiotics. But we'll see.

I just figured out: I should have an EASTER hatch!! I don't know how we'll do, and I can't remember exactly what's in there. I know that out of 17 eggs, 11 were for sure good and I pulled 6. 2 clears, 1 quitter, 2 bloodrings and the other one with a detached cell that may have started but definitely wasn't developing. I didn't get to candle again after my chicks were born because we left the next morning in a hurry. But my son is turning the eggs, usually only 2 times a day because he's working long shifts this week. He's supposed to be watching the humidity, but I'm sure it's probably not being nursed like it would be if I were home... Hoping for no spikes.

Here's what I think is in there that were viable on Wednesday of last week:

2 Booted Mille Fleur from Lovin

1 Split Lav Silkie from Natalie

Some of Natalie's mixes from that I'm hoping to get atleast one that looks like the roo of hers I love so much and I'm hoping for giant hens but will be happy with a roo if it looks like him!! (3 I think)

Some mixes from Lovin, BR/EE's, 2 of which are cracked and waxed but both appear to be viable, so I'm hoping. If I remember correctly, all five of those were good. One was the Big Boy egg that was developing so much quicker than the others. I'm hoping for a huge, huge roo from that one.

My red roo is going to be rehomed I think. It's gonna be a while before I have any hens for him, and he seems to be really grieving. He's losing feathers and looks bad. He doesn't eat much either. He isn't sick, just lonely I think. I have a friend with a mixed flock of over 100 hens and she will be happy to take him. She already has plenty of roos, but what's one more?

Anyway, that was an everything but the kitchen sink post. Sorry.

And wouldn't ya know, I went out with a flash light, turned the red light off, and the legs are pink/pale on the back, and slate on the front.
(well, had to let the dogs out, and the chicks are right on the patio)
