I will be going to San Antonio from the 12th to the 19th. I am getting eggs this week. So if I put them in the bator on Saturday, then I should be home for the hatch. So that will leave my hubby here to babysit my bator. How scary is that? I guess I will be leaving alot of instructions! Unless I can get 2 silkies to go broody. I'll see if golf balls do the trick, LOL

I have an rcom eco 20. Great bator temp wise and humidity wise. Then you put the eggs in between these slats and the floor moves back and forth to turn the eggs. However, the last 2 batches of eggs had 2 chicks born upside down, and when candling, I noticed that some of the eggs had lopsided air pockets. So I'm not crazy about the way the thing turns the eggs, so this time I'll be turning by hand at least twice a day.

People always do like to be able to look at what they are buying. But I wouldn't let people just reach in and grab them. Maybe like at a German fruit store you yourself handle and show them the goods they want to pay for. I don't know how much they are worth. BLRW chicks from bigtime hatcheries are like $8. But silkie chicks can be very expensive and I don't know what a lavendar split would be worth. You can price them high and let them haggle you down!

Nat...about the price of the silkies....are you planning on selling them Straight run or sexed? I agree with you about not wanting everyone's hands all over them...if they'd like to see a few...maybe you can handle them...because you know they'd want to check out the toe spacing, vaults, wing and foot feathering etc...I don't know what they'd go for...you should also ask this question in the lavender silkie thread lol

I know I owe pics...but I am on the notebook instead of my other laptop.

OMG you realize when I get home it's going to take me days to catch up on this thread??? I'm on the coast of wales so here's your Welsh phrase of the day... Mae fy hofrenfad yn llawn llyswennod that means 'my hovercraft is full of eels'. Isn't that helpful?? Miss you all can't wait to catch up! Hopefully our babies arrived safe Nat I don't have time to check... Take care all! I'll post when I hit Edinburgh!!!

Is there anyway in the instructions to alter the turn angle? I had one batch of cochins that had a bunch of malpositioned upsidedown chicks - but it was just that batch. I figured it was genetic.

Wait a sec.. that could be a very useful phrase if your hovercraft was in fact full of eels,

except that few of the locals actually SPEAK Welsh.

I find this thread to be relative to one of those stores you walk by all the time, wondering what's inside, thinking someday I will stop. I kept going by this and never made it back... until today
