Well, just received 24 BBS Orp eggs from TatersChickens. They were mailed last Wednesday. Once again, the PO did not deliver them, but dropped them directly from the plane as they passed over. This time there were no casualties though. All 24 eggs look good. I am going to set them tomorrow morning early, since they decided to keep them around the office so long. They even had the nerve to stamp on the box "Received in Damaged Condition"

Who do they think damaged them? Imogene? SHEESH!!! Absolutely beautiful, large eggs too.

But now for sure I am going to have to move my bator in the middle of incubating. Cause these guys won't be ready for lockdown until the 14th and I want to be long outta here by then. I plan on taking out the eggs, wrapping them in warm blankets and hotpacks, them rushing them carefully up to the new place (it's only 16 miles away). I will send the boys up before me to get the bator set up so I can pop them back in as soon as I get there. Sound like a plan?

I've been so strung out at work that I haven't been able to get on at all during the day to check things out. I gotta go check out Nat's silkies...I lost a couple of her auctions previously due to ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS CIRCUMSTANCES so now I keep thinking I will just wait till this fall and PAY MORE MONEY to bid on some pure lav eggs instead of splits.

YOU HEAR THAT NAT! I'M WAITING, NOT SO PATIENTLY...

just kidding, I'm a little patient...a very little...

you want to turn eggs an odd number of times/day, not even or the chicks will end up in the same position.

that' kind of looks like "constricted toe" but it's a foot. it's caused by low humity they think, but if you massage the foot several times/day, this will help get the circulation going and the fluid out of there.

Thanks Brindle, Hoppy and Sem. The little chick is getting around on it's hocks and is quite the little personality. I booted it and splinted it after I straightened the toes a few times myself. The swelling has already gone down tremendously. Now it's toes are normal size, but still very curled under. The feet are still a bit swollen, but not so much. It's belly is still big, but much smaller than before. I have it directly under a heat lamp just to be sure it's at the right temp, but it clearly prefers the inside of my shirt and will settle right down when I do that. If not, it's constantly peeping. I have the other pip, humidity up to 73, and it's just sitting there. The other two - nothing yet.

Hoppy, do you mean low humidity during hatch/lockdown, or low humidity earlier in the incubation? I do dry hatch, but I've never had anything like this before. The chick I culled last month I thought had spraddle and curled toes, but it was nothing like this chick looks. It could not balance itself at all, and looking back, it acted like it had had a stroke. This chick with gorgeous with good spacing on the 5 little toes, beautiful feathering on the outside only of the legs, which is just right. The left foot really looks injured to me. And it's still a bit bloody.

it's actually something that happens with naturally hatched chicks as well as incubator hatched so I'm not sure when it happens but very common in electus parrots and I have had it in an african grey as well.

IDK I couldnt believe Katy's eggs didnt sell-a month ago I would have snatched those suckers up! The silkies too? Im shocked really. I had an 18 hr auction up for them and wound up with 19 in my bator because they never sold! WTH?? LOL...Now I have more up because My bator is so full-I mean packed to the tilt! turkey eggs-call duck eggs-silkie eggs-splash amaracauna eggs-and 4 others IDK??? Ill have to ask because I forgot what the heck I ordered haha...I think the eggs rush is over for now:-( JEN-the eggs are all yours! go for it-your gunna get them real cheap too! LOL..I was actually going to pm you to offer to send them to you Monday instead of throwing them in my bator but I hadnt seen you on for a few days and thought I better not wait-

oh no, it got worse...I had a broody araucana that made a nest under our wooden screenhouse and I couldn't get her out so we blocked her in. My ds forgot to block her off last night and a skunk came around, chased her off and I went running out and had to scare the skunk off, yeah fun. She came back this morning but only went back to the eggs for a while and then abandoned the nest the rest of the day. At 2:30 my ds came home and we accepted she wouldn't go back to the nest. He took a rake and we carefully rolled out 8 eggs. AND YEP I put them in the bator and I checked them and they seemed fine even though they were cold for 12hrs. They are blk rumpless araucana x blue wheaten ameraucana, not sure what I am going to do with these

I think a lot of the auctions slowed down because no one can stack anymore eggs in their bators right now! I don't bid on many auctions and if they are on ebay I *watch* them until the last 5 or so minutes and just take them. Here I can never remember to come back when the auction I am interested in end

I don't think you'll have any trouble at all find homes for those babies.

I don't bid on many either. My bator is full (stacked) as I speak, and there's an auction for SF's that I have been lusting for up now!! I'm going to message and see if I can put an order in for later.
