Well, I wasn't sure. It seemed when she tried to walk that the left leg (the one that was curled and injured) went far out to the side. She could hold them together at times, but most of the time the leg was far out. So I figured I'd try it. I think it's helping. I put the other two babies in with her and she's a good deal larger than them. She kind of hops on her hocks to get to where they are but atleast she's balanced.

She'll figure it out. She will want to get up and run around with the other chicks. Give her some time and she will figure it out.

Wonderful news to start the day! Congratulations! little Imelda will figure it out; I had to splint 2 my last hatch & they hopped all over the place like 2 little rabbits, but it didn't stop them from eating & moving around & after a week the bandaids wore off enough to remove & their little legs were straight as could be.

I put my incubator into storage yesterday & it kind of made me sad! but I'm through hatching until the fall - unless I win the lottery & can afford more coops and runs!

I cant wait to put mine away too:) Gives me an excuse to really work on the next one and get it up and running!! fits 100+ eggs:)

This last batch in my bator is a hit or miss-good grief-I am hand turning 75% of them and I left 2 turner slats in for the others-I forget to turn all the time and Ill die if I catually get some to hatch out on time or even to hatch at all!

A hundred egg bator?? Now I'm lusting! Next year I want to hatch from my own flock, too.

So here's my update for today 4/27/10 (Nat, can you update me?)

SF/BSF hatch complete. 4/15 made it to lockdown. 3 hatched. One quit early in lockdown or just before.

21/36 Sizzle eggs definitely good with movement seen. 9 maybes, look good but no movement seen. 1 clear, tossed. 5 probable quitters, will keep for a few more days.

3/7 turkey eggs still in. Movement in 2 clearly seen. Other egg looks developed, but no movement seen. Tossed a clear and an early quitter with a floating cell.

Turkeys due 5/7 and sizzles due 5/9.

More SF/BSF on their way from lockedhearts. I'm gonna keep trying. I want a big pen of these!

BLRW(2) hatch complete.

9/28 made it to lockdown 7 hatched.

Polish silkie mixes 8/10 going strong due 31st April
BLRW(3) 3/8 developing due May 11th
BLRW(4) about one third of 16 developing (did not count) due May 11th

This was for work.

Still to come over the next 4 weeks:
Some more BLRW, Tony’s split orps, and some pretty (hatchery stock) barnevenders and EE's for a friend.
Then I am done hatching chooks (unless there is something unmissable

). Your auctions will be moderately safe.

I had a 2 people come at the weekend and between them bought ALL the chicks and the pullets I had for sale

. They would have taken double the amount if I had had them, as they got a GREAT deal. Sad and at the same time a huge relief to see them go. I kept a few fav pullets and 11 chicks: Hoppys BLRW, 3 MF cochin and a recovering chick that is in the “intensive care” unit. It is a runt maran that got picked on by silkies and an evil tiny porcelain D'uccle!!!
It is almost certainly a boy so won't be able to keep him but it is good for now.
