just went to check on my chicks and the khaki sumatra died
. I am soooo mad about this as I have tried 3 batches of eggs from the same person on ebay and have no chicks to show for it. This one looked like it had something wrong with one of it's eyes(one was noticibly smaller) and I am starting to wonder if it's the breeder birds
. I set some of my own throughout all my hatching and ALL of mine hatched with no issues, I only lost one of the broody girls because the chick was just too big for the egg(momma is pretty small and daddy is a lf ameraucana) so I know my bator is working fine. I only needed one khaki or dun and then I could have crossed to some nice black sumatra, JUST 1 WAS ALL I NEEDED!
Not like they were cheap, first 2 sets were of 6+ and cost me over $40 shipped, 3rd set was about $60 because I bought 2 sets. I really wish I could find a different person with these
. To top all that off I got a batch(14) of bantam ameraucana and only 1 is developing! They had nice small air cells so they weren't old, cells were intact so they weren't handled too roughly. I am just having no luck
I also found one of my black ameraucana chicks dying(3day old), just laying there and when I picked it up it stiffened up it's legs and is barely breathing. It's too far gone to do anything for so I just put it in a small box in the brooder so the other chicks would stop stepping all over it
