I picked up some wheaton marans today. for some reason I thought they were adult laying hens the guy was getting rid of $4 each. so I drove over 10 mins away, and he has them all packed up he says. then I told him I really only wanted 1-2 (thinking adults) they were 5 days old, so I bought 2 really wanting adults. guess I have to go back and recheck that ad, i know it said adult wheaton hens.
thought that was pretty cheap, now I know why (and not they weren't sexed but easy to sex, so I only brought home girls)
hoppy, you interested in any ameraucana? I have about 14 black ameraucana from paul smith. jeneric had said she wanted them but I haven't heard from her and I need them to go. There are quite a few girls in there. I am to the point that dh told me to pull all the girls and just give the boys away on craigslist but I paid a lot for these and really want to make sure they go to someone that knows what they are worth.....or possibly do you know anyone that might want them??? I also have a few splash from Gary Ramey and some blue wheaten(2roos and 2pullets).....

Well, Nat, I won a dozen plus so if they all hatch I will bring some to Chickenstock! I only want 4 or 5. Hopefully, since they won't be shipped I'll have a better hatch rate!
On another subject, Hedwig the white OE from you, is BRIGHT RED, so I'm hoping eggs are iminent! She was 5 months last Wed. I keep watching them on my camera but I haven't seen her go in the box.

Congrats Momma ! I have 21 from Mike Vogan that went into lockdown last night! I got 23 eggs from him and all but 2 have live chicks in them. FINALLY, an awesome result from shipped eggs. Now, if I can just get them all hatched. I will have to sell some too, if they all hatch, but how do you decide??? You really have to let them grow out a while so you can judge color and type right??
SONEW:
I got those D'Uccle eggs yesterday. 26 eggs and so amazingly packed: large bubble wrap on the bottom. Eggies wrapped in small bubble wrap and snuggled into lots of shavings AND shredded paper on top of all that. These guys have just GOT to hatch.
I have started dipping my hatching eggs into Betadine before incubating. 10 % solution -got at wally world. I heat it up in the microwave until it's about 105 F, and then just give them a quick dip and air dry. I started doing this because the eggs I got last month from Gretchen (and I hate to say this, but) were pretty dirty, not just mud, but poop. They were so expensive that I had to do all I could to help them hatch. I got a LOT less blood rings. I still had a poor hatch- only 7 birds out of 4 dozen eggs, but they were mostly clear eggs, only about 5 blood rings in the whole batch. I did try to sand off most of the poo, but there was kind of a lot. I got no blue or chocolates, so Gretchen is sending more Buff, Choc and Blue for postage.( bless her heart)
Have 3 batches of FBC Marans off ebay coming this week- then I am DONE, until I start again
