Yes Brindle, They are enormous. I guess my other birds ARE normal, it's just that the Orps are so huge. What I love about all my birds so far, is that they are all in 1 large coop (for now) from big Orps, to tiny 2 week MF Cochins and Silkies, and everyone gets along great. They all kind of hang out in their own little "gangs" according to when they were put out in the coop. I usually put babies out in the coop at about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. They go into a 2x4 chicken wire pen, with their heat lamp. After a couple of weeks, they graduate into the coop proper. Then the next batch goes out. It's cute, because the most recent "graduates" usually hang out next to the old pen and snuggle with the new babies at night. The heat lamp is close to the edge of the pen, so some of them still like to get near it. That way, the new babies get to know the older birds gradually. I have 3 feeders at different levels, so the little ones don't get picked on by the bigs ones.

It's such a sweet and contented place at night. Do you guys notice how your birds really never walk anywhere? They always have to run. It's funny 'cause sometimes their feet run away with them and then they have to stop real fast

.

I'm glad to here that they all get along. I've been letting mingle with the big girl flock, and everything seems okay. My JG one eye roo is sortof lovingly wimpy, and the silkie roo chases him but can't run too fast or cause any harm, and my BOrp roo hasn't told anyone he's a roo. So, at least they all range well together, I have always kept the silkies in a pen, and am happy that they can come out and eat grass.

are you feeding alot of birds? if so that could be the issue, they do hold back while the others eat so they will grow slower.

Well, they are all together with all sizes and ages, but the feeders are always full, plus they have a Flock Block which they all just LOVE, so I don't think that's it....

My two Orps are huge, I got them from Nava. The hen was always a big girl, the BO was a little thing, I think he got stunted from having cocci. Then, overnight he developed these huge long legs and now he's pretty big. My Orps come near as big as my JG's. I think blrw's are normal sized chickens, like the size of an EE or an Ameraucana.

Uh, one point I would like to make is that we usually end up sniping from one another.

Last year when my first roo got sick, I ended my year away from BYC. I did really need a long break. It felt real good to come back, especially when we all met snarking. Mary reached out to me during the first snarky auction, as a friend. Then I met Nava, who felt bad for me not hatching any JG splashes, and gave me an Orp slash that I named Natalie. We have a good group, and Mary might just need a break. I can't see her staying away for long and being without her buddies.

Edited to say:

OMG
DD2 informed me that she was going to do some baking late last night, and so I left her to it and went to bed. This morning I realized something was not right.

There was some chocolate cake thing on the stove but ........

Arghhhhhhhh my DD must have had some ALIEN ABDUCTION because every single shred of evidence (save the cake) that baking had occurred was missing!!!

What have they done to her? I want by DD back!! Hold on... no I don't I want to keep this one so HANDS OFF ALIENS
