Hoppy those are beee-eautiful birds! Nice project.

I think it might be a little slow here now, but it will most likely pick up as we get closer to cold weather. I think most of us are trying to enjoy the weather and get some things done.

Hi Nava! A few weeks ago I was up in your neck of the woods-my friend's horse colicked and he was brought up to that clinic on 60 (?). He's fine, but now my gf is obsessing over that horse like you wouldn't believe. She actually spends a couple hundred dollars a month on supplements/vitamins/etc for her horses.

Question. I'm just wondering how long chickens really live. I have 2 more right now that are thin and pale and nap alot, but otherwise are normal. I can't really see anything wrong. Do you think the heat stresses them out? Shortens their life?

I'm sure the heat does stress them, sem.

How old are they?
Any chance of parasites?
I always heard they could live to 10-12 years old, but I expect 5-7 isn't too bad. They may have a shorter lifespan here in the South? Makes their little hearts work really hard.

All my girls have gone into molt and are panting so hard. The real temp was 100 here yesterday and I have no idea what the heat index was. I'm planting stuff arounf the chicken coop like crazy, but it still has to grow a bit to provide much shade.

thanks, I need to work on some better wyandotte type as well.
I was told as chickens age, people change their food to a grind rather then a pellet so they can digest it better. I don't know if that would help or not. you might also add some corn to the diet to help fatten them up. do you think they might be getting pushed out of the feeder, low birds in the pecking order?

OK my intention is not to be an A$$ but I need all of your opinions. I put 2 Hovabators with turners up for auction at the beginning of the month. The auction ended on 8/8/10. I heard from the girl that won them a few times, said she was having problems with paypal... Ok no problem I say "send a check I'll just have to wait until it clears...." no check... no PM's returned... nothing... I have a friend (Deanners03) that wants them. I have tried to contact her multiple times to find out what's going on. Think it's fair to just go ahead and sell them to Deanners? I am kinda tired of waiting.

I've been planting like crazy as well, but it will have to grow. My DD says it's been in the 100's every day in San Antonio. It's been around 95 here every day. However today rained all day and it was just like 83. I really do think my flock needs some air conditioning!

Thanks, but they've always gotten crumbles, and sweetfeed (horse grain) for scratch. The two that have less appetite are usually the food hogs. I hate it when these symptoms are so non descript.

They are 2 and 3 years old. I did them all with Ivomec a few weeks ago. But I'm thinking of doing some Wazine as well, just in case.
