Raining here right now but going to be cooling back off towards morning... I stepped out on the back patio and it sounded like huge branches breaking and falling all around me. I think it's just the ice breaking off the trees and power lines and shattering on the frozen ground when it hits. Wind is starting to pick up some and I'm not about to venture around to see if it's branches or ice... guess I'll know for sure come morning. Sounds like the 4th of July with all the cracking and popping.

Since babies are hatching I thought I would post pics of my flock and pics of the eggs I am getting. The olive egg I believe is from one of yours Nat.

I am up to about 4 olive eggs a day. Very pretty eggs.

Guys, really sorry about all the chick losses. I "rescued" one at the Agway that had been getting chewed on by the others, and it did the seizure thing on the way home. That one had a floppy neck, too. I've also had the dead-for-no-reason thing, several times. I had one necropsied (sp?) and the vet said he couldn't find anything. Maybe my hens stopped laying because they are trying to tell me something...

Momma - POOR JOHN! I was coming home from work tonight, and I was going not quite 20 mph, and went to slow down to turn into my street and slid right past it! 4-wheel-drive and everything!

Brin - I'm torn between asking you to post more puppy pics and begging you to stop torturing me! I can't have a dog right now and am in a constant state of withdrawal!

5 babies are out so far out of my 17 eggs in lockdown and more pips. I think one is dead in shell - there's a beak poking WAY out but no movement at all.

More pips, tho!

ETA: pipped baby is NOT dead. I just saw him/her 'smacking' a bit so I guess it's just resting. Here are the five out so far, in my 'recovery room' (a re purposed hovabator)..

two grayish ones, three blackish ones.
