I just pulled out the newspapers that were covering the pine shavings and they all seem to be pecking away at it. Are they eating it, I can't tell. If they are eating it do they need grit to digest it?
Thanks!

If you are using regular large flake pine shavings and not sawdust, I wouldn't worry. They don't seem to ingest enough to cause any problems as a rule.
Picking things up in their beak is akin to a human baby putting everything in their mouth. It's how they figure out what's food and what's not.
